The other person posted a link that showed a cover that HOLDS the book and has carrying handles, but I think you're looking for something that just covers it. =)

American ingenuity at it’s best. I’m a professional photographer and I’m just floored by this.
If you are getting them actually published, then the publisher does that.
If you are just making them for yourself, POD (print on demand) houses might do something like that, or other vanity presses.
But POD houses can require you to buy a certain amount… it's messy.
i made mine, and kids at school are asking for me to order it! did i mention that you keep all the money from the people that ordered it? About there is 600,000 owners of books there and they have money. But there’s catch, you only have 15 days to order it and then they get rid of it.
Concentrate on painting the edges of books and pages, make it look rough and raged and frayed in certain parts. Don't do it all the way around just the corners here and there it will make the books look old.
The new NG Kids Magazine (South Africa) has awsome ones on page 5
I love Blurb!
The publisher commissions cover art from illustrators. The author is rarely involved; they even need a special deal for the art to be required to meet their approval. The covers on the site do look like they were made on a graphics program. You probably wouldn't get the same results, but you could try Photoshop or Pagemaker (both are Adobe applications).

How to Make a Paper Book Cover
——————————————————————————–
This book cover is created from a brown paper grocery bag and can be made to fit most book sizes.
Steps:
1. Cut along the side seam of a brown paper grocery bag and cut out the bottom of the bag. You will be left with a rectangular sheet of paper that measures approximately 17 by 36 inches.
2. Place the paper horizontally on a flat work surface – logo side up.
3. Set your book on top of the paper. Center the book and use a pencil to mark the paper along the top and bottom edges of the book.
4. Remove the book from the paper and fold the top and bottom edges toward the center of the paper from the marked lines. Your book cover will now be the same height as your book.
5. Set the book, open, back on the paper, aligning it with the folds. Center the book and fold the left and right edges of the paper over the front and back covers of the book.
6. Check that the left edge of the paper reaches halfway across the inside front cover and that the right edge covers the same distance on the back cover when the book is closed. Trim the right and left edges of the paper if necessary.
7. Keep the left and right edges of the paper folded in on the front and back covers of the book.
8. Tape each fold in place at the top and bottom of the paper to form pockets for the front and back covers of the book. Use transparent cellophane tape and be sure not to tape the book itself.
9. Decorate the book cover with crayons, stickers or rubber stamps.
Tips:
You can use comics from the newspaper instead of a brown paper bag.
Use brown or white craft paper instead of a grocery bag if you want a tidier look.
I don't think you get to make your own book covers, but my sister and i play around with photoshop and pictures we get on photobucket to make book covers to our story that we like. We know they won't use those covers, but it is always fun to mess around.
i know right? i had written a book! will you buy it? come and get spoon, the brave and order of cheap!
This is fantastic! Can’t wait to get started on mine.
Very Gently Open the front cover and run your finger down the seam and put a ruler inside the cover
Very Gently Open the back cover and run your finger down the back seam
NoW open the Middle and that split the sections in half.
as you read into the book continue to do that.
IT SOUNDS CRAZY, this was one thing my gramma tought me when I was younger and I do that with all my books and it keeps them from splitting.
I do that with College text books too. Thisis done so it doesnt break the binding.
I also take a paper bag and cardboard and put a bookcover on it

Mos authors don't design a front cover and when writing the book may have the title of the book written on a piece of paper but as for pictures and colours ect they don't have.
When the book is about to be published someone will be employed to design the cover and if you look inside at the small writting in most books it will tell you who that person was.
